After filling in the form below, we check the availability of our driver and the bikes. Only then will you receive a confirmation of the reservation.
Also enter an alternative date in case we have to deviate to another day.
Please also state your height, so that we can reserve the correct size bicycle.
And if you are bringing children, please also state their age so that we can provide child seats for both the car and the bicycle.
Cycle through the mountains on the former mining railway 'Via Verde Ojos Negros'. It's an easy bike ride: you're riding downhill almost all the time! From Valencia or Sagunto we will first take you to Barracas or Sarrion/Albentosa (over 1000m above sea level), to enjoy the most beautiful stretch of Spain's longest rail cycle path. It is famous for its many tunnels, bridges and abandoned stations, in a spectacular landscape that changes every time.
The distance of the cycle route from Barracias is 40 km. If you are cycling with children, you can also end the tour after 22 or 32 km.
You can also extend; you then cycle 55 or 65 km and start further inland, past the spectacular viaduct of Albentosa.
In the summer you can swim in (public) swimming pools close to the route and at the end of the tour you can paddle under a 30 meter high waterfall!
Travel to the starting point with your (rental) car, with our private driver or take the train; in all cases you can already enjoy the beautiful landscape on the outward journey. At the start we tell you everything about the route and provide your bicycles, a pannier and a route map.
Then you cycle independently, at your own pace. Along the way you will find the necessary picnic areas and a number of villages to stop for a drink or to eat. On request, we will set up a picnic table exclusively for you at a special place along the route.
Starting point Barracas is located on a plateau, 1000m above sea level. The first kilometers are on the plain, and then it almost only goes downhill, so easy cycling! The rail cycle path cuts through rocks of red sandstone and follows ravines. Along the way you pass a number of abandoned stations and you drive over beautiful railway bridges and a number of tunnels.
The first village on your route is Caudiel, where you can stop for a tapa or lunch in one of the bars. Then it continues to Jerica, a village with a number of terraces right along the route. And finally you arrive in Navajas, a village with photogenic villas from the early 1900s. If you have time left, you can also visit the spectacular waterfall 'El Salto de la Novia' and bathe in the Palencia river. In Navajas you return the bikes and start the return journey to Valencia; by car about three quarters of an hour. About an hour by train.
Curious ? Read the article (PDF) about this trip below, written by Kees Volkers and published in 'de Vogelvrij Fietser', the magazine of the Fietsersbond.
The price for the bike ride of 32 or 40 km is € 49 per person, minimum 2 participants.
It is possible to extend the day trip to 55 or 65 km. In that case you also cycle over the spectacular bridge and ravine at Albentosa. Please note: this extra route is NOT exclusively downhill, there is also some false flat uphill.
In that case we will bring the bicycles (and any participants) further inland.
The additional cost is 15 € per person.
Included: Bicycle rental, helmet, bicycle bag, delivery of the bicycles at the starting point, Dutch explanation about the route and tips for the road, repair kit. Child seats and trailers are available on request.
If you come by car yourself, you can park it at the end point and we will bring you and your cycling friends to the starting point in addition to the bicycles.
At the end of the tour you hand in the bikes and you are immediately back at your car.
If you come by train from Valencia, we will help you buy the right train tickets. That seems simple, but for many people it is not, because there are different railway networks, the train is sometimes replaced by a bus and you have to perform some bureaucratic actions at the counter or machine, in Spanish...;)
Leave that hassle to us.
The train tickets themselves are not included in the price, you pay them on the spot. Count on €10 per person for the outward journey and €6 for the return journey.
You travel by public transport to the starting point, where the bicycles are waiting for you.
After the bike ride, you take the train or bus back from Navajas to Valencia.
Are you coming with a larger group? Then we can arrange private transport or a bus for you. Price on request
The tour is possible almost all year round.
Special cycling clothing is not necessary.
If bad weather is predicted in the mountains, we will cancel the tour or move the tour to another day.
In the summer you can - at your own risk - swim in (public) swimming pools close to the route and at the end of the tour you can paddle under a 30-m-high waterfall! (Entrance €3,- p.p.)
In the event of serious mechanical problems with the bicycle, we will repair or replace the bicycle on-site. You will receive a repair kit for repairing punctures, although the risk of punctures is small.
Your safety has our attention, but it remains your own responsibility.
There is no guide on this tour, you cycle at your own pace. We will give you a helmet and ask you to drive carefully.
Participants are expected to take out travel and accident insurance themselves. We can take out insurance via ARAG for €5 per participant per day. Conditions on request.
